Ubytek Dominiki Łabądź to swoiste studium przypadku kamienicy przy ul. Jedności Narodowej 93 we Wrocławiu, która przez 5 lat funkcjonowała jako niezależne miejsce sztuki Galeria U. Odbywały się tam wystawy zbiorowe, indywidualne, koncerty, performansy i warsztaty. Galerię prowadziły trzy artystki Dominika Łabądź, Marysia Orzyszyna-Kułakowska i Małgorzata Sawicka. Przestrzeń wynajmowały od prywatnego właściciela kamienicy. Galeria U otwarta z potrzeby działania oddolnego i poza obiegiem instytucji prywatnych czy publicznych, stała się też częścią zmian zachodzących w dzielnicy.
Po pięciu latach działalności, galerię zamknięto, a przestrzeń artystka przekształciła w swój dom, który musiała opuścić po niespełna roku. Dziś w jego miejscu, powstaje już zupełnie nowy budynek mieszkalny.
Dominika Łabądź jako świadkini i uczestniczka tych wydarzeń dokumentuje procesy zmiany, nadając im polityczny wymiar.
Artystyczny esej o potrzebie działania i uwikłaniu w procesy gentryfikacji nabiera szerszego kontekstu, choć stanowi konkretny przykład. Nie jest to jednak melancholijna opowieść o stracie, ale raczej wyraźny obraz różnych zmiennych.
Odnosząc się do jednostkowej sytuacji oraz warunków możliwości funkcjonowania, opowiada o współczesnych relacjach i punktach zapalnych, które zachodzą w procesie przekształcania przestrzeni.
Od zagadnień związanych z relacją prywatne-publiczne-polityczne, poprzez przejęcie, wywłaszczenie i zmianę użytkowania. Ten nielinearny zapis wydarzeń, który tylko w części wykorzystuje archiwalia, to przemyślana przez artystkę opowieść o oddolnie działającym miejscu w gentryfikowanej dzielnicy miasta, które od początku skazane było na tymczasowość.
"Ubytek" to wystawa o przepracowanej stracie i współczesnym krajobrazie przemian przestrzeni wspólnej.
Poprzez określenie środków produkcji, typologie i selekcję artystka tworzy indeks elementów istotnych i na ich podstawie pokazuje ubytek.
W ramach wystawy powstała publikacja o tym samym tytule poświęcona tematowi gentryfikacji, zamieszkania i wspólnoty. Publikacja jest limitowaną edycja częściowo wykonaną techniką sitodruku i szyta ręcznie.

Dominika Łabądź (1981) – artystka wizualna. Uprawia działalność interdyscyplinarną. Wykorzystując różne media, tworzy instalacje, wideo, obiekty, działania w przestrzeni publicznej. Współzałożycielka Galerii U we Wrocławiu działającej w latach 2009-2014. Członkini kolektywu Sitwa. W swojej pracy chętnie opiera się na kooperacji, wybierając techniki DIY. Doktorantka na wydziale Malarstwa i Rzeźby ASP we Wrocławiu. Stypendystka licznych programów m.in. Minister Kultury i Dziedzictwa Narodowego.

Opis całego projektu Ziemia uniwersalna cz. 1 i 2

Projekt Ziemia uniwersalna to esej problematyzujący tematykę przestrzeni jako wspólnoty i własności, kapitału w różnych jego wymiarach. Wspólnota czy przestrzeń wspólna powstając na styku różnych potrzeb, staje się „częścią wspólną”, ale też miejscem konfliktów i różnic. Odnosząc się do problematyki wspólnej pracy, tymczasowych autonomii, czy warunków możliwości wykorzystania wspólnoty nie tylko w kategoriach ludzkich, opowiada o współczesnych relacjach. Dokumentacja tych procesów, obserwacja relacji i uczestnictwo są kanwą całego projektu. Druga część projektu pt: Część wspólna, zostanie zaprezentowana jesienią 2016 roku w BWA Studio we Wrocławiu i zrealizowana przez zespół kuratorsko-artystyczny Tandem (Dominika Łabądź, Joanna Synowiec).

Ubytek (Loss) by Dominika Łabądź is a kind of a case study of a building no. 93 at Jedności Narodowej Street in Wrocław, which for five years functioned as an independent art space Galeria U. During its operation, it served as the venue for many solo and group exhibitions, concerts, performances and workshops. The gallery was managed by three artists, Dominika Łabądź, Marysia Orzyszyna-Kułakowska and Małgorzata Sawicka, who rented the space from the private owner of the building. Galeria U, an independent DIY initiative without any connections with private or public institutions, became part of the changes taking place in the entire neighbourhood.

After five years of operation, the gallery was shut down, and the artist transformed its space into her apartment before she had to leave it more than a year after. The house was demolished and a completely new residential building is being built in its place.

Dominika Łabądź, a witness and participant of those events, documents the processes of change in a political perspective.

Her artistic essay shows the need for action and the parallel entanglement in the processes of gentrification. However, although it is concentrated on a particular case, it can also be seen in a broader context. Not a melancholic tale of loss, her work is a clear picture of various variables shaping the reality.

Referring to the individual situation and the conditions for the possibility of the operation, she tells the story of relationships and flashpoints accompanying the transformation of space.

She deals with issues at the junction of the private, public and political, as well as with the problems of acquisition, expropriation and change of land use. This non-linear record of events, using the archival materials only to a certain degree, is a story of an independent operation in a gentrified district of the city, doomed from the start.

Ubytek (Loss) is an exhibition about the loss and contemporary transformations in the common space.

By identifying the means of production, typologies and selection, the artist creates an index of the essential elements to show the 'loss' from the title.

The exhibition includes a publication with the same title, on the issues of gentrification, housing and community. The publication is a limited edition, partly screen-printed and sewn by hand.

The exhibition is organized as part of a grant from the Fund for the Promotion of Creativity.
It is the first part of the project Ziemia Uniwersalna cz. 1 i 2.

Bio:
Dominika Łabądź (1981) is a visual artist, often involved in interdisciplinary activities. Using a variety of media, she creates installations, videos, objects and performs actions in public space. Co-founder of the Galeria U in Wrocław, operating between 2009 and 2014. Member of the SITWA collective. In her work she favours cooperation and DIY techniques. PhD student at the Faculty of Painting and Sculpture of the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław. Scholarship holder in numerous programs, including the scholarship of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage.

Description of the project Ziemia uniwersalna, cz. 1 i 2

The project Ziemia uniwersalna (Universal Earth parts 1 and 2) is an essay on the universal themes of space as the questions of community and ownership. The community or common space, at the crossroads of different needs, becomes the "common part" but also an area of conflict and differences. Referring to the question of joint work, temporary autonomy or community not only in human terms, the projects deals with modern relationships. The documentation of these processes, observation of relationships and participation are the main threads of the entire project. The second part of the project, The Common Part, will be presented in autumn 2016 at BWA Studio in Wrocław and curated by Tandem (Dominika Łabądź, Joanna Synowiec).
